Weight Loss, Nine Days Into the New Year
We encourage our new patients to listen to the conversations going on around them on their first visit, it is usually an excitement that is almost contagous! You cannot help but to feel the victory of others and leave encouraged.
For those of you that do not live in an area that is serviced by Advanced Weight Loss Clinics, I suggest you find support in a clinic or group or even a spouse or friend. Don’t try to go it alone, find someone to cheer you on all the way to the finish line.
Best Wishes,
Anita

Weight Loss, Changing Behaviors Learned As a Child
How you feel about food may affect your health. Most people with weight related health issues have struggled with this problem most of their adult life. The cause may very well be a learned behavior from childhood. Below are some of the “learned behaviors” that may be affecting your weight and ultimately your health.
As a child have you ever heard your parents say any of the following: “Do not get up from the table until you have finished all the food on your plate.” or “You have to clean your plate, don’t you know there are starving children in China?” or “You can’t have any desert until you clean your plate” perhaps you have heard this one, “if you are good today, I will take you out for ice cream”. Little did our parents know that they were setting the stage for future eating habits, feelings and behaviors. For the obese guilt and comfort are never healthy attitudes towards food.
Do these scenarios sound familiar? If so, don’t be discouraged, on the contrary, be encouraged because knowledge is key! When you understand why you fill your plate, eat it all, and then stuffed, head for the desert table, you have half won the battle.
By keeping a food journal you can begin to define your eating patterns. A simple notebook will do and keep up with the following entries each time you ingest something:
- Time of day
- Emotional state
- Location & Activity (table, TV, computer, car)
- Meal or snack?
- Name of Food and quantity
- Eating due to hunger or other? If other, can you identify?
- Did you eat until full or stuffed?
- Nutritious or junk food?
After you have identified what triggers you to eat, work on changing one of those factors at a time. If you find you belong to the “Clean Plate Club” this one is very simple, change all your dinner plates to smaller plates. A comfort eater? This one is a little more difficult, perhaps replacing the actual comfort food with something a little more nutritious such as air popped corn or yummy grapes or apples slices.
This article is not intended to provide medical advice. If at anytime you feel your weight problems are beyond your abilities, seek out a medical professional to help you.
For some, fighting obesity will be a lifelong battle, but here are some words of wisdom… You have not failed until you quit. Never give up, NEVER EVER QUIT!

Resolution Time – Do you have a plan?
Advanced Weight Loss Clinics typically start seeing an influx in patients around January 15th. Many of those started their weight loss effort on January 1, and realized they need help.
I am not saying you need to go to a weight loss clinic to succeed in weight loss, I am just suggesting you come up with a plan while you are still so highly motivated.
The first of the year is the best time to lose weight, it is a time you are probably the most motivated, it is also the time you will get the most support because everyone around you has the same goal.
Take advantage of the timing, if you don’t have a plan in place, get one before you get discouraged.
Make this year count. Never give up, Never, ever quit!
Happy Weight Loss
Weight Loss Resolution – Day 2
January 2, 2009 – So, how is it going…..
There are two thought on weighing in, I am going to offer both to you.
Most of you have heard the following statement:
“You should only weigh in once a week so you will not get discouraged.”
Here is an alternate way of thinking, I am not saying one way is better than the other, as everyone responds differently, I am just putting the information on the table.
Get a digital scale that will give your weight down to the tenths. If you consume fewer calories than you use each day, you should see some weight loss every day. Even a loss of one tenth (.1) of a pound is still a victory.
This method my be especially useful for those who are trying to maintain their weight. It is critical to jump back on the “weight loss wagon” at the first sign of weight gain. It is way easier to take back off (2) pounds early on, then 15 pounds later on.
Never give up, never quit!

An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away
The benefits of apples are the three “F”s… Fiber, Flavonoids and Fructose, each of them playing a part to keep the body healthy and satisfied.
- Apple Fiber: Helps reduce cholesterol levels, reduces the risk of hardening of the arteries, heart attack and stroke, also aids in regularity.
- Apple Flavonoids: A type of pigment in apples that helps provide their color. Flavonoids have been found to help prevent the risk of heart disease and the anioxidant activity helps prevent cancer.
- Apple Fructose: Naturally sweet, a simple sugar which is broken down slowly and helps keep blood sugar levels stable.
Feel free to share your ideas with our readers.
Weight Loss Tip for 2009 – Water, Water, Water
Here is a great water tip: Keep a case of bottled water in your car, the cooler weather will keep it cold and refreshing. Having it so handy will also probably deter you from stoping by the store to get a soda. Try to drink 64-100 oz per day. Your body will thank you for it.
